Think Different.
Apple had one of the greatest marketing campaigns there ever was. In 1997 Apple was close to bankruptcy, but Steve Jobs returned to Apple and turned the company around, and it is one of the most successful companies today. They launched the marketing campaign Think Different. The campaign revitalized the Apple brand by celebrating visionaries and rebels who challenged the status quo rather than just selling computer hardware.
We need to change the way we think.
What is the first thing that Jesus preached?
He said “Repent!”
The Greek word for repent is “metanaAYo.
It comes from 2 words which mean to perceive differently.
It means to change the way you think.
When we change the way we think, we change the way we act. We turn away from sin and instead turn to God.
The reason Jesus said they needed to think differently is because the kingdom of God had drawn near. The kingdom of God is antithetical to the natural kingdoms of the world, and requires us to think differently from our natural way of thinking, to perceive it. Jesus said we need to be born again of the Spirit to see and enter the kingdom. The kingdom is the restoration of the creation the way God originally designed it, and in it we live life as God wills.
When we believe in Jesus, turning from our sin, and are born again, we enter a spiritual realm of possibilities, that are beyond the limitations of this natural life. Paul instructs be “transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2
We need to think according to God’s word. Paul says we “have the mind of Christ.”
“for, ‘Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 2:16
When we allow God’s word to renew our mind, we think differently, and can live life according to the kingdom of God, with all its potentiality.
It all starts by repenting, which is thinking differently. When we think differently, we begin to act differently, and live as citizens of God’s kingdom.
Think Different.
